Cancer Prevention

Detailed information for improving overall health and reducing cancer risks.  This topic includes recommendations for improving physical fitness, developing good eating habits, quitting smoking, managing weight, coping with stress and more.  Provides information about preventive screenings based on nationally recognized guidelines, emphasizes age & gender appropriate cancer screenings, and includes early warning signs of specific cancers.

Cholesterol Management

Provides tips on how to effectively deal with high cholesterol.  Discusses good cholesterol vs. bad cholesterol, changes in nutritional & eating habits, and cholesterol reduction. Discusses how to keep weight management logs and achieve physical activity benefits.

High Blood Pressure Management

Teaches participants ways of lowering blood pressure through identification and management of risk factors, importance of tobacco cessation, regular physical activity and eating healthy. Provides medical guidelines for blood pressures ranges & long-term health consequences.

Heart Disease & Stroke Prevention

Provides an overview of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases and the contributing factors associated with each.  Warning signs of heart attack and stroke are presented.  Discusses lifestyle changes associated with reducing risks for heart disease and stroke.

Living With Diabetes

Provides participants with an opportunity to learn how to adopt lifestyle changes to help reduce the health risks associated with diabetes.  Discusses signs and symptoms of Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, medications, nutrition and physical activity, blood sugar monitoring and self-help tools.

Living with Asthma

Discusses the signs and symptoms of asthma, effective medication tips and how to strengthen lungs and the cardiovascular systems. Presents strategies to cope with the short and long term effects of asthma.

Healthy Pregnancy

Discusses how to become financially, emotionally and physically prepared for having a baby.  Identifies behaviors that may increase health risks during pregnancy. Discusses physical changes of the mother during pregnancy and nutrition and physical activity tips for maintaining a healthy pregnancy.

Skin Cancer Prevention

Provides participants with valuable knowledge on the various types of skin cancer and tips on how to lower your risk for the conditions. Reviews images of various skin cancer types for early detection.

Men’s and Women’s Health

Educates participants about the most common health issues including early detection of specific cancers, such as colorectal cancer, prostate cancer, breast cancer, and cervical cancer. Discusses cardiovascular disease prevention techniques, nutrition and physical activity strategies.

Well-Being Topics

Improving Fitness

Helps people evaluate individual need for physical activities and create a personal fitness plan.  Participants will learn how regular physical activity can help maintain and strengthen the body, particularly the heart and respiratory system.  Discusses sports nutrition, tips on how to log your activities and how to fit it in your daily schedule.

Smarter Grocery Shopping

Offers a clear-cut guide to smart food shopping.  Discusses common health claims, the Food Guide Pyramid, Dietary Guideline for Americans and % Daily Values.  Emphasis is placed on reading food labels to help participants choose products that will assist them in achieving a balanced diet.

Healthy Cooking

Learn how to incorporate healthy foods and ingredients into meals.  Discusses the typical American diet and trends in obesity patterns in the United States.  Emphasis is placed on healthy modifications to recipes and menus including use of sugar substitutes, plant-based foods, herb and spices, soy products and animal foods.  A brief overview of shopping for food products and label reading is included.

Weight Control

Teaches a realistic, systematic, practical and “take charge” approach to managing weight.  Participants are introduced to strategies for reducing fat in their diets, increasing physical activity, coping with stress and creating support systems.

Super Nutrition

Offers information on how to incorporate healthy eating into everyday living.  Discusses dietary guidelines and recommendations, health risks associated with nutrition, healthy recipes and menu ideas, and tips on how to track daily physical activity and nutrition.

Smoking Cessation

Provides participants an opportunity to create a personal tobacco cessation action plan. Discusses the physical symptoms of nicotine addiction and how to deal with cravings, nutrition and physical activity tips, and how to develop a support system.

Complementary Health

Provides participants with information on alternative ways of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.  Discusses acupuncture, chiropractic care, hypnotherapy, massage therapy and yoga.

Managing Back Pain

Provides a practical approach to identifying the causes and solutions for back pain and injury including, the importance of maintaining strength and flexibility, nutrition, physical activity and personal safety techniques.

Stress Management

Provides participants with an opportunity to learn how to identify behavior patterns that may lead to increased stress.  Discusses what stress is and how to create a personal action plan to deal with stress as well as nutrition and physical activity tips.
